2015 NIRSC Equations Release and Sign-up Schedule

We announced in the January newsletter that NIRSC has implemented a staggered equation release schedule with the first release for the year to be hays and haylages in January.  We experienced the need for chemistry re-runs and expect the 2015 hays and haylages to be released in March.  To read more about the sign up schedule please go to: Equation Release & Sign-up Schedule

Sign up for equations can be done online with a simple form.  The form will be available all year for new sign ups and will get reported back to the NIRSC business office and invoicing will follow.  Payment plans will be available so that each member can budget for equation fees over the year.  Go to this link to sign up online: Online 2015 NIRSC Equations Sign-up

NIRS Consortium with AFGC in St. Louis

The NIRSC held its annual conference in conjunction with the American Forage & Grassland Council (AFGC) conference from January 11-14, 2015 in St. Louis, MO.

The AFGC conference was a four-day event with a multitude of presentations and topics all related to forages.  The NIRSC held a workshop consisting of three presentations relating to NIRS as a tool to reduce sampling error, for pasture monitoring, and for field spectral analysis.  NIRSC also held an entire day's worth of presentations and discussions that spanned topics such as plant breeding and the importance of NIRS, understanding and utilizing NIRS in forage quality testing, and quality assurance using NIRS.  Both the workshop and the day-long presentations were well attended with 40-45 attendees at both.  Our goal was to provide expanded opportunities for discussions to our members as well as educate a broader audience about NIRS.  We think this was a success as we met a number of new attendees and had fruitful discussions.

AFGC will have information posted on its website from the conference and we will share this when available.

We would like to get your feedback on NIRSC annual conference planning.  Please complete this short survey to help us plan for next year's conference.  This is your consortium and we'd like to help you get the most of your membership!  Just click on this link to go to the survey:

    Annual Dues 2012

Annual Dues for the NIRS Consortium for 2012 are being invoiced at this time.  Usually we are well under way with receiving payments for dues at this time of year.  However, this year we have had substantial activity in NIRSC intellectual property work. The NIRSC has engaged the help of an IP attorney and we have developed an NIRS Consortium License Agreement.  This license agreement will apply to all members of the consortium.  What is so important about this agreement is that we are aiming to protect the work and achievements of our entire organization that all members have contributed to for years.  So when a member makes payment for 2012 dues and signs the License Agreement, the agreement will be retroactive as of January 1, 2012.

The License Agreement will be sent to each member along with the invoice for 2012 annual dues.  Please contact Patty Laskowski-Morren with any questions.

    Equations Updates 2012

Equations updates for 2012 are nearly completed!  We have updates for all products and include updates to individual parameters wherever it would improve a product equation set.  Of special interest is the completion of the 30hr digestibility equations for our products.  We will have about 100 samples for each product for the 30hr equations, so we will immediately begin to take new spectra for further updates.  We expect the equations to be ready by about Labor Day.
